The Metropolitan Police launched a murder investigation after a 42-year-old man was killed at an address in Hammersmith, west London. They have arrested one man, who was being held in custody.
And officers have detained a fourth suspect over the knife murder of a 17-year-old in Canning Town.
Police were called yesterday afternoon by paramedics to Melrose Gardens, Hammersmith, where the man of 42 was pronounced dead.
A 32-year-old man was arrested at the scene on suspicion of murder. He was taken into custody at a south London police station.
The Met’s Homicide and Major Crime Command said the victim and suspect knew each other and that they were not seeking anyone else for the murder.
Detectives in east London said it was “sheer luck” that a 28-year-old man who, separately, suffered multiple stab wounds in Ilford, east London, last night was not killed.
They have appealed for anyone who witnessed the attack or has information about the identity of the suspects to come forward. The victim was found at the junction of Ilford Lane and Wingate Road.
Detective Constable Kirk Patson said: “It was sheer luck that the victim in this case wasn’t fatally wounded.”
Appealing for help investigating, he said: “If you are reluctant to contact officers direct call anonymously via Crimestoppers, but please do make the call.”
The man was treated in hospital, where his condition was said to be serious but not life-threatening.
In another east London case, detectives investigating the murder of a 17-year-old in Canning Town made a fourth arrest.
Lord Promise Nkenda, from Newham – known as Promise – died on 14 February after he was found with stab wounds.
Two 17-year-old boys have been charged with murder and robbery and remanded. A third boy of the same age has been arrested on suspicion of murder and bailed.
Yesterday a 14-year-old boy was arrested and charged with murder.
The deaths were the latest in a spate of knife crimes in and around London.
