From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Police are becoming increasingly concerned for the well-being of a Mexican woman who has been missing in the UK for almost two weeks.

Gabriella Montanez, 25, was last seen at her parents' flat in Atherley Road, Shirley, Southampton, at about 4am on May 19 after an argument about her cooking a meal late at night.

A Hampshire police spokeswoman said: "Gabriella also is known as Gaby. She is a Mexican national who has been in England for seven months with her parents. She speaks perfect English with an American accent. Gabriella has no phone, transport, money or bank account. She took no clothing with her and has no known friends.

"Anyone who knows where Gabriella can be located is asked to ring Detective Inspector Philip Scrase at Southampton Central on 0845 045 45 45."

Ms Montanez is 5ft 2ins tall and slim with long, light brown hair. When last seen, she was wearing a pink sweater, black tracksuit trousers and sandals.
