The incident, involving a male cyclist and a lorry, happened on the northbound carriageway of the A1 near Blyth, Nottinghamshire, at about 4.15am today.
Officers closed the northbound carriageway while initial enquiries were carried out. It was reopened this afternoon, a Nottinghmashire Police spokesman said.
The cyclist, believed to be 61-years-old, was taken to Bassetlaw Hospital, where he later died.
