From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. Police have launched a search for a missing 14-year-old girl from Oxfordshire.

Chloe, whose surname has not been disclosed, was last seen in Witney, on the edge of the Cotswolds, at 8.30am on Monday while travelling towards Headington Hill.

Thames Valley Police released a CCTV image showing her walking along a pavement in Headington Hill in the east of Oxford. Her family is fraught with worry as she has never gone missing before and her disappearance is very out of character.

Her mother Lorraine shared photos of her daughter on Facebook, adding: “Hi everyone, our beautiful daughter, Chloe, is currently missing, maybe in Witney or Oxford.

“If anyone knows where she is or hears from her please get in touch with Dom or myself. We just love her so much and just want her home safe and sound.”

Thames Valley Police wrote on social media: “It is believed that Chloe has travelled into Oxford and possibly into the Blackbird Leys area. Chloe was last seen wearing a grey hoodie, dark grey joggers, black Nike Air Force trainers, and a big black bag.”

Officers released a CCTV photo of Chloe from the day she went missing, describing her as “white, around 5ft 4ins with brown hair”.

Chief inspector Jim Holmes said in a statement: “We are becoming increasingly concerned for Chloe’s welfare and would ask anyone with information on where she may be to get in touch.

“Chloe, if you are reading this, you are not in any trouble. We are concerned for you, so please contact us and let us know where you are.”

He continued: “If you see Chloe, please call 999. Alternatively, if you have any other information, please call us on 101 or leave your information via our website, quoting reference 43250008078.”
