A man has been arrested after an explosion at a property in the Forest of Dean on Saturday.

The man, 43, is in custody and has been arrested on suspicion of arson with the intent to endanger life and burglary.

He had earlier been freed from the house and taken to hospital, but was discharged as his injuries were not serious.

The owners of the property in Coleford were not in when the explosion occurred just after 7.30am.

Immediately after the explosion, the adjoining house was evacuated.

The property was examined by structural engineers but investigators were not immediately able to determine the cause of the explosion.

Police and fire officials will return to the building to continue their investigations today.
