Two people have been found dead after a house fire.

The bodies of a man and a woman were found after a blaze ripped through a property in north London.

Their deaths are being treated as unexplained.

A Scotland Yard spokesman said: "Two people were pronounced dead at the scene, a male and a female.

"Inquiries continue and the fire is being treated as unexplained."

Six fire engines and around 35 firefighters were called to the semi-detached house in Fallow Court Avenue, North Finchley, just after 6am.

They found the woman's body in the kitchen and the man in a first-floor bedroom.

London Fire Brigade said the blaze destroyed large parts of the house, affecting around three-quarters of the ground floor, half of the first floor, the staircase and roof.

It took firefighters around two hours to extinguish the flames.

A spokesman said: "The brigade was called at 6.06am and the fire was under control by 8.09am.

"Crews from Finchley, Southgate, Barnet and Hornsey fire stations were at the scene.

"The cause of the fire is under investigation by London Fire Brigade and the Metropolitan Police."
