London City Airport has been evacuated following a fire alert, with no flights able to take off as investigations continue.

Hundreds of passengers were ordered to leave the terminal after an alarm was activated at 4.30pm on Friday afternoon.

"We are still ascertaining the exact cause of the fire alarm activation and the fire services are on the scene and investigating," a spokesperson for the airport told The Independent.

"We're not in a position to give a timeframe for the disruption until the investigation is complete."

The airport building remains evacuated, with passengers and staff from "land-side" assembled in a car park, and those from "air-side" on the tarmac.

The disruption came after a protest by Black Lives Matter activists temporarily closed the airport's runway last month.

Flight information can be found on London City Airport's website here.
