Linh Le was visiting the UK with a tour group and doesn’t speak any English, was last seen atop the city walls above Station Rise on Tuesday evening.
Investigators "were growing increasingly concerned" for the 15-year-old's safety, North Yorkshire Police said in a statement.
They added that Ms Linh “could be anywhere in the country” and are appealing to the public for information.
She was last seen at the popular historic attraction with an Asian man of approximately 20 years old, wearing a dark top and black baseball cap.
Ms Linh was wearing a white Ariana Grande jacket, light blue denim shorts and carried a white rucksack.
Police said the eight people arrested in connection with her disappearance would remain in custody for questioning.
