At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. Your support makes all the difference.Six weeks after missing student Libby Squire was last seen in Hull, Humberside Police have released a new video of her singing in a car with her family.
The footage – put out by police to encourage new witnesses come forward – shows the 21-year-old in the passenger seat of the car being driven back to Hull University last April.
Her two sisters and brother are in the vehicle with her but are out of shot and cannot be seen.
The last known sighting of Ms Squire was just after midnight on Friday 1 February at the junction of Beverley Road and Haworth Street in Hull.
Her mother Lisa Squire said: “As a family, we are really struggling. The whole family miss Libby beyond belief.”
“Libby’s disappearance is having a big effect on all of us. Please if you have any information let the police know.”
Detective Superintendent Martin Smalley, the senior investigating officer, said the amount of support from the public over the past six weeks had been “staggering”.
“I want to thank everyone for their assistance and to everyone who has come forward with information to help us with our investigation so far,” he said.
He added: “We continue to search for Libby. Hundreds of officers have been involved both on land and in the water and we have followed up hundreds of leads and lines of enquiry.
“Libby’s disappearance remains unexplained and while we remain hopeful, we must consider she has come to harm.”
Last month police released CCTV footage showing four people on Oak Road in Hull close to the junction with Clough Road around the time Miss Squire was last seen.
The clip shows a cyclist, a pedestrian and a pair walking together in the early hours of 1 February.
“I am releasing this footage again as these people have yet to come forward,” said DS Smalley. “We want to speak with them as they may be possible witnesses and might hold important information.”
Anyone without information can contact police on 101 quoting log 163 of 6 February 2019.
