IoS writers win awards
Your support helps us to tell the story
From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.
Your support makes all the difference.Independent on Sunday writers have won a series of awards for their reporting on health and the environment. Liz Hunt, Medical Correspondent, won first prize in the awards of the Medical Journalists' Association and Norwich Union Healthcare for her articles on breast cancer, drug misuse in pregnancy and abortion without consent. This is the second time she has won the award.
Annabel Ferriman was awarded second prize for three articles, two of which appeared in the Independent on Sunday and Independent. The third prize went to Christine Stopp, for articles which also appeared in the two newspapers.
Steve Connor, Science Correspondent, took first prize in the national newspaper category of the Bayer Journalism Awards for Science in the Environment, run by the Environment Council. His article on the link between house dust mites and asthma was praised for making complicated ideas 'relevant in an understandable and practical way'. Geoffrey Lean, Environment Correspondent, and Fred Pearce, a freelance science writer on the Sunday Review, were both commended.
