Your support makes all the difference.A Second World War hand grenade was brought to a police station by a member of the public, the force said today.
Hampshire Police were forced to call for support from the Army after the device was taken to Alton police station last night.
The grenade, which contained explosive material, was safely removed.
A police spokesman said: "On Friday 23 March at around 9pm Alton Police dealt with an incident on Orchard Lane, Alton.
"This was as a result of a member of the public attending the police station with a World War Two hand grenade.
"The area was secured by local officers while specialist advice was sought and then following this advice the Army attended.
"The grenade was then removed by an Explosive Ordnance Disposal unit.
"Although the risk to the public was low the grenade was found to contain an amount of explosives."
