At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. She is receiving treatment in hospital and remains in a critical condition, Nottinghamshire Police said on Monday morning.
Officers were called to the crash in Bulwell on Sunday evening, where photographs showed the ambulance with a smashed windscreen.
Low Wood Road remained cordoned off through the night as detectives in the force’s serious collision investigation unit investigated.
Dave Williams, deputy director of East Midlands Ambulance Service, confirmed the vehicle had been responding to a 999 call.
“Our thoughts are with everyone affected by this incident,” Mr Williams said. “The police are now carrying out an investigation into what happened and it is, therefore, inappropriate to make any further comment at this time.”
"Detectives investigating the collision in Bulwell earlier this evening have confirmed that the pedestrian involved in the collision is a 10-year old girl," a police statement at 6.30am said.
"The girl remains in a critical condition in hospital, where she is receiving treatment for her injuries."
