'Giant's Causeway' stones auctioned

Stones thought to be from the Giant's Causeway, which were once used to protect the US Open golf champion Graeme McDowell's home club from IRA car bombs, sold for just under £20,000 yesterday. The seven hexagonal basalt column sections, which were outside Rathmore clubhouse at Portrush, Co Antrim, were auctioned in Billingshurst, West Sussex, for £19,112.50, to an overseas phone bidder.
