Everyone in the two cars that collided in Worlington was pronounced dead at the scene, despite local people risking their lives to save them, firefighters said.
Police believe the vehicles were travelling towards each other on the B1102 when they crashed at around 8.15pm.
One car left ended up in the garden and catching fire, while the other remained on the road.
Paramedics, an air ambulance, firefighters and police arrived quickly at the scene but the people could not be saved.
Ian Bowell, area commander for Suffolk Fire and Rescue, told the Ipswich Star that two people in each vehicle were confirmed dead at the scene.
“The first people here, the paramedics and the police, and also passers-by and people who live nearby did everything they possibly could, and risked their lives to try and save these people, but tragically those lives were already lost,” he added.
The road was closed last night as police investigated the cause of the fatal crash.
A spokesperson for Suffolk Constabulary said it would not release names of the victims until their families had been informed.
The tragedy came after a 35-year-old man died in another crash in Suffolk.
Scott Smith was crossing the road in Lowestoft on Thursday when he was hit by an Audi A3. He died at the scene from his injuries.
