A man's body has been found on a road that was left underwater for two weeks after severe flooding in South Yorkshire.

Police officers recovered the body on Fordstead Lane in the Doncaster area on Saturday, but they were unable to say how long the body had been there.

The road has been under flood water for two weeks after the River Don burst its banks earlier this month, inundating much of the surrounding area.

The death is not being treated as suspicious.

In a statement, South Yorkshire Police said: "Inquiries are under way in Doncaster after the discovery of a man's body.

"Police were called at around 2.15pm on Saturday November 23, following reports a body had been found on Fordstead Lane, Barnby Dun, Doncaster."

South Yorkshire was hit by unprecedented flooding earlier this month, with hundreds of homes damaged.

A Met Office station in Sheffield recorded its wettest autumn on record more than 15 days before the end of the meteorological season.
