A teenage girl has been arrested on suspicion of murder after a man was stabbed to death in West Sussex.

Emergency services were called the Three Bridges area in Crawley at 9pm on Tuesday where they found a seriously injured 24-year-old man, Sussex Police said in a statement.

He was treated by paramedics and an air ambulance doctor on Russell Way, but was pronounced dead at the scene.

A 14-year-old girl from Crawley was arrested on suspicion of murder in south London at 10.20pm on Wednesday, while a 21-year-old man from London was also arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender.

There were helicopters circling overhead above the scene on Tuesday night, according to reports by residents on social media.

Police have said they remain in custody and are "helping with enquiries".

It follows a stabbing in August, where a man in his 50s was left with serious injuries after being attacked in Crawley. Sussex Police said that the victim and suspect were known to each other.

Speaking at the time of the 20 August incident, a police spokesperson said: “The victim, a man in his 50s, suffered multiple serious injuries and was taken to hospital where he remains in a stable condition.

“The victim and suspect are known to each other and police are not looking for anyone else in connection to the assault.”

Anyone with information is asked to report online at sussex.police.uk or call 101 quoting Operation Parkhead.
