From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

A TfL spokesperson confirmed to The Independent that an engineering train had derailed at around 12.15 in the Holland Park area last night with investigators from the rail accident investigation branch still examining the scene.
Meanwhile, piling onto the misery caused by the derailed train a fire alert closed Bond Street station, while Wanstead and South Woodford stations were also closed this morning owing to overcrowding. All three stations have now reopened.
Thanks to social media – and Transport for London’s decision to link wi-fi to some stations – travellers attempting to use the Tube’s Central line this morning were quick to express their dissatisfaction.
“I believe that [investigation] may still be taking place and until that competes, we won’t be able to move the train,” the spokesperson said.
He was unable to give an approximate time for the completion of the work, instead stressing investigators were “working as quickly as possible”.
The central line is currently suspended between White City and Marble Arch, with severe delays to the rest of the line.
A limited service is operating from east to central London – as far as Marble Arch – and to White White City from Ealing Broadway and West Ruislip. A spokesperson warned as a result of fewer trains, services will much busier than usual.
Tickets will be accepted on London Buses, London Overground, First Great Western, Abellio Greater Anglia and Chiltern Railways.
