From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

The transgender star is set to be recognised by awards organisers for her campaigning work on trans equality issues.
During the 2016 US election, Ms Jenner voiced her support for Donald Trump and the Republican Party.
But in a recent interview with Fox News she has criticised the administration’s LGBT policies, and hit out at Mr Trump’s pick for Army Secretary, who voiced his opposition to trans people using gender-appropriate bathrooms.
"I need to tell Mark Green I don’t have a disease," Jenner said.
"There’s a lot of issues out there for our community that I’m fighting for and I want the Republican Party to do a better job," she added
The awards, now in their sixth year, celebrate the work of individuals and organisations who campaign for LGBT rights in politics, media, and business.
Ms Jenner is expected to be one of the headline guests at the ceremony alongside leading British LGBT celebrities such as Graham Norton, Clare Balding, Callum Scott, Rylan Clark-Neal and Sue Perkins.
Speaking ahead of Friday’s awards, Alan Carr said: “It is a fantastic event that does so much to celebrate people in the LGBT community who are making a real difference.
“In 2017 these awards are more important than ever. I am so proud to be part of it.”
“It is going to be a brilliant night and I am looking forward to reuniting with my Mel on stage to present the winners. It is going to be a glitzy and fabulous affair with some very special moments.”
The NatWest British LGBT Awards will be streamed live at www.britishlgbtawards.co.uk from 9pm on 12 May.
