The teenager, who cannot be named for legal reasons, is accused of stabbing Darren Edgington to death in the city’s St Paul's area.
It follows police being called to reports of a serious assault early on Friday evening.
Officers with Avon and Somerset Police found a man there in critical condition suffering knife injuries. He was pronounced dead shortly afterwards.
The teenager was arrested in the early hours of Saturday morning, and charged on Sunday before appearing at Bristol Youth Court on Monday.
District judge Lynne Matthews sent the case to the city’s crown court and remanded the teenager in custody.
The youth will now appear at crown court on Tuesday, ahead of a plea and trial preparation hearing on 8 July.
