From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

A mass brawl broke out between at Ascot Racecourse, leaving two men requiring treatment for head injuries.

Dressed in three piece suits, up to 20 people were caught on camera as they swung punches at each other and wrestled security staff as they tried to pull them apart.

Women tried to break up the brawl, which was uploaded to social media. Two men were treated for head injuries.

Another fight between up to eight people also broke out outside a bar.

“Following recent incidents, we increased the number of response teams on site today and the incident was dealt with quickly," said Ashley Morton-Hunte, Ascot's communications manager. "Sadly, an irresponsible minority can impact on the majority. We take all anti-social behaviour seriously, and can and did eject people.”

This was the latest in a series of violent incidents at race courses across the country in recent months.

At least 50 people clashed at Goodwood over bank holiday weekend and four people were taken to hospital.

Several smaller fights have also broken at Newmarket, Aintree and Cheltenham in the past year.

Ascot was home to a widely reported brawl on Ladies Day in 2011. At Royal Ascot last year, a shirtless, bald man was also filmed brawling with another man.

An unidentified racegoer also threw a plastic pint glass full of beer at the jockey Andrea Atzeni as he rode to the start of a race during Royal week.
