At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. The plane came to rest on the grass beside the runway, a Scottish Ambulance Service spokesman said.
Fire crews and paramedics were alerted to the scene, but no one aboard the aircraft needed medical attention.
“An air ambulance plane on a routine non-emergency transfer from Shetland appears to have come off the runway at Aberdeen while taxi-ing after landing", the spokesperson said.
“There were no injuries to anyone on board and the patient has been transferred to hospital.”
Flights were diverted from Edinburgh to Glasgow until the runway was re-opened at 2pm today.
A statement on Twitter from the airport said: “Flights suspended for around two hours as a result of an ongoing incident. A further update will follow.”
A Police Scotland statement said: “We are aware of the incident but on this occasion there was no requirement for police involvement.”
It is not yet known if the vehicle was damaged during the incident.
