Death driver's sentence 'lenient'

A MOTORIST jailed for 28 days after knocking down and killing a young girl who had recently overcome leukaemia was dealt with too leniently, Sir Nicholas Lyell QC, the Attorney General said yesterday. He has applied to the Court of Appeal for leave to have Colin Vano's sentence reconsidered.

Vano, 33, a market trader of Beckton, east London, was sentenced at the Old Bailey four weeks ago for causing death by dangerous driving after his car hit Nikki Lockley, nine, as she crossed a zebra crossing outside the pub run by her parents in Romford, east London, in May last year.
