From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.
Your support makes all the difference. As rival tabloid The Sun remains embroiled in debate over its Page 3 models, the Daily Mirror has taken a tongue-in-cheek pop at it, putting 18 birds on its own third page on Friday including 12 tits.
Underneath the headline 'Page three birds', a caption read:
"Some people make a big fuss about putting tits on page 3. But we think you’ll agree that these are rather lovely… and in the best possible taste.
"The amazing photomontage was taken at Stover Country Park in Devon for the RSPB’s Big Garden Birdwatch this weekend.
"The charity is asking nature lovers to take part in their survey by spending an hour counting the birds in their garden. Find out more at rspb.org.uk."
The image includes blue tits, coal tits and great tits, none of which are 19 and from Essex.
After appearing to have finally axed its traditional softcore porn slot last week, The Sun returned to publishing it on Thursday in spite of anger from the No More Page 3 campaign.
A 'clarifications and corrections' column featured Nicole, 22, from Bournemouth wearing only a necklace and a wink.
