A pair of 14-year-old boys who were arrested by counter-terror police have been charged with conspiracy to murder, detectives said.

The teenagers, from Northallerton in north Yorkshire, were arrested over the weekend by Counter Terrorism Policing North East.

Both have been been charged with conspiracy to murder and one faces another charge of aggravated burglary.

They are due to appear in custody at Leeds Magistrates' Court later this week.

The boys were arrested on suspicion of preparing for an act of terrorism as part of an intelligence-led investigation.

Police also carried out searches at a number of addresses in the Northallerton area, including three houses.

Assistant Chief Constable Phil Cain, North Yorkshire Police, said: "Officers believe that this is an isolated incident and the wider community are not at risk.

"We appreciate the cooperation of local residents whilst the investigation continues."
