A murder investigation has been launched following the death of an inmate at a London prison.

Emergency services were called to HMP Wormwood Scrubs in the west of the capital on Wednesday afternoon following reports of a stabbing.

Khader Saleh, 25, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Four men, all prisoners at HMP Wormwood Scrubs and in their early twenties, have been arrested on suspicion of murder. All four remain in police custody.

The Metropolitan Police said detectives were investigating and that next of kin had been informed.

In a statement, Scotland Yard said: “While formal identification awaits, officers are confident the deceased is 25-year-old Khader Saleh. A post-mortem examination will be arranged in due course.”

It comes less than two months after a formal inspection of the jail raised concerns over chronic staff shortages, food shortages and a surge in violence.

Inspectors also found areas of the west London jail were strewn with litter, attracting rats and cockroaches, in what they said painted an “extremely concerning picture”.
