A man who shot a woman in the vagina while enacting a “sex fantasy” has been jailed for 10 years.

The victim suffered life-changing internal injuries and has undergone extensive surgery since being shot by David Andrew Jeffers in Stockport.

Police were called to the Britannia Hotel to reports a woman had been shot at 2.20am on 31 January.

“When officers arrived at the scene they found a 46-year-old woman with serious abdominal injuries after being shot in her vagina,” said a spokesperson for Greater Manchester Police (GMP).

“She was rushed to hospital requiring extensive surgery but has since recovered.

“The woman, who was too unwell to be fully interviewed at the time, told officers from her hospital bed that Jeffers was a ‘bad man’.”

Minshull Street Crown Court heard that Jeffers, 47, had not meant to open fire while enacting what the Crown Prosecution Service described as a “sex fantasy”.

After apparently attempting to dial 999, he called the hotel’s reception desk in his panic and told them urgent medical assistance was needed.

Jeffers then fled the room, leaving his victim naked and bleeding on the bed with “no regard for her life”.

He later claimed to have found the gun in the toilet in a Wetherspoon's pub at Leeds railway station and took it to Manchester to dispose of it.

Police tracked him leaving the hotel and travelling to Piccadilly Station before catching a train back to Leeds on CCTV.

Armed officers raided a house in Leeds two days later and arrested Jeffers, with searches of his home finding a partially scrawled note denying knowledge of the incident.

Detective Inspector Roger Edwards, from GMP’s Stockport division, said: “This was a horrifying incident that has left a woman with life changing injuries that will affect her for the rest of her life.

“It is one of the most shocking sets of circumstances that I have encountered and I hope that this sentence can help offer some closure.

“Jeffers left the victim badly bleeding in a hotel room, showing no regard for her life.

“I know that this has been a traumatic time for this woman, having to relive the horror of that day, but I hope that this sentence can help her get her life back on track.”

Jeffers, of Berkley Terrace in Leeds, was jailed for 10 years after pleading guilty to possessing of a firearm with intent to endanger life at Minshull Street Crown Court.
