A woman was followed into a building before being raped in the basement, authorities have said.

A 22-year-old woman, who has not been named, was approached by a man in Whitechapel, London, in the early hours on 9 November.

The man, who was wearing a dark body warmer, then followed her into a building before sexually assaulting her in the basement.

The man then left the property 20 minutes later, leaving behind his body warmer at the scene.

The Metropolitan Police have released images of the suspect who is seen wearing a grey jumper after the attack.

"The suspect is described as a black man, aged between 25 and 35 years," the Metropolitan Police said in a statement.

The victim is currently being supported by specially trained officers.

No arrests have been made and investigations continue.

Anyone who recognises the man, or has information, is urged to call police on 020 8733 5999, or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
