Woman jailed for iron attack on 80-year-old man

A former ambulance worker who tried to kill her 80-year-old father by hitting him 10 times with an iron was jailed for 14 years today.
Gillian Davey, 44, of Mitcham, Surrey, was convicted of attempted murder over the drink-fuelled attack she carried out in March last year.
Her father Walter recovered following the assault at his flat in Kennington, south London, but could not remember what happened, the Old Bailey heard.
The court was told that he was "vulnerable" but the injuries he suffered turned out not to be serious.
Judge Ann Goddard told Davey: "You had a long-standing and unfounded grievance against your father over the death of your mother. There were feelings that your brother had been a preferred child.
"All this, despite a reasonable relationship with your father, had lain dormant for many years. On this night you had far too much to drink, which brought these feelings to the fore.
"Your father was vulnerable and in his own home. This was a spontaneous attack."
Paul Ozin, defending, said Davey suffered from depression and expressed "genuine and profound" remorse for what she had done.
He said despite what she had done to him, her father remained "sympathetically disposed towards his daughter".
Mr Ozin said Davey had worked for the London Ambulance Service before losing her job due to a drink-driving conviction.
