A woman and a boy have been found dead at a property in the Suffolk town of Newmarket, sparking a police investigation into the circumstances of the deaths.

A member of the public reported finding the pair dead inside the address on Park Avenue on Friday.

Suffolk Police said officers were called out to a house on the terraced street just before 6pm. They have appealed for anyone with information to come forward.

According to the Newmarket Journal, armed police were seen at the scene and forensic services started their investigation at about 7pm.

Ambulance crews also reportedly attended, as police cordoned off the area.

An unnamed man who lives on the street told the newspaper said he saw a woman come out of a property in tears, saying she was “so afraid”.

The force said: “A member of the public reported to police he had found a woman and a young male child both deceased inside the premises.

“A police investigation into the circumstances of the deaths is currently under way. Next of kin are aware."

The statement added: “Police would like to hear from anyone who was in the Park Avenue area during the day and who may have seen or heard anything that could assist the inquiry.”

Anyone with information about the incident is asked to contact Bury St Edmunds CID on 101 quoting reference CAD 309 of 26 April 2019.
