A murder investigation is under way after a 77-year-old woman was found dead, police said.
Officers were called to St Wilfrid's Road, Hexham, Northumberland yesterday.
Northumbria Police issued few details about the discovery.
A spokeswoman said: "Police are investigating the death of a 77-year-old woman who is believed to have been murdered."
She added: "Police are appealing for anybody who was in the area, saw anything suspicious or who has any information to contact them on 0345 604 3043."
