Police have identified two young brothers killed after their car was hit by an oncoming vehicle in Wolverhampton.

Sanjay Singh, 10, and his 23-month-old brother, Pawanveer, died following an incident on Birmingham New Road on Thursday evening.

West Midlands Police said the boys’ mother had been making a right turn off the road when their BMW was struck by an Audi S3, before the driver left the scene.

A 31-year-old man from a third car, a Bentley, was arrested at the scene on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving. He has since been released pending investigation.

Both children received emergency treatment from medics, but were later pronounced dead at the scene.

The family of Sanjay and Pawanveer, paid tribute to the boys in a statement released through police, also appealing for information to find the driver who fled the crash site.

“Our family are grieving over the tragic deaths of our two beautiful children, as well as dealing with the shock of the horrific crash,” the statement read.

“We appeal to the general public to come forward as witnesses in order help police find the perpetrator who fled from the scene and to bring him or her to justice.

“At this time we would appreciate some privacy and space to grieve over our precious loss.”

Accident investigators remained at the scene of the incident overnight, where the blue Audi could be seen with a crumpled front end as well as a white BMW which had also been extensively damaged.

Detective sergeant Paul Hughes, of West Midlands Police, said: “Our thoughts remain with the family of Sanjay and Pawanveer Singh at this extremely difficult time.

“We have already had a huge response from the public but would urge anyone who has not yet spoken to us to get in touch.

“I would appeal directly to the driver of the Audi to make contact with us. You may not be fully aware of the full tragic circumstances but you now need to speak to us.”
