Video shows youths 'brandishing knives at each other' in east London park
One boy appearing to be in his teens waved two foot-long knives
A shocking video showing a group of youths confront each other with large knives in a park in Haggerston, east London, on Wednesday, has emerged online.
In the YouTube video filmed by a passer-by, yelling is heard as a youth wearing a bike helmet brandishes two foot-long knives at a pair of boys who also appear to be in their teens.
As the pair back-off and exit the park, it seems that one is holding a smaller knife in his hand.
During the argument, a bystander can be heard shouting “guys, it ain’t worth it.”
The group then trade threats across the railing in Stonebridge Gardens as the pair ride away from the scene on bikes.
Twitter user @BurgerBearTom who filmed the incident tweeted: “HAGGERSTON STAY SAFE. I just filmed and witnessed this.”
"Someone is gonna die…Looked like a serious standoff," he added.
Warning: Video contains strong language and distressing scenes
One witness told the Evening Standard: "There was a group of four lads hanging out in the park minding their own business for solid hour or so.
"Then two youths on cycles spotted the youth in the helmet and shouted that finally they’d found him and he was ‘gonna get it’.
"They turned around, jumped off bikes and chased the lad in the helmet who then pulled out the big knives.
"The cyclists then pulled out the smaller knives.
"There was lots of shouting. They then departed saying they’d finish each other off in Haggerston Park."
The Metropolitan Police said officers were called to the Stonebridge Gardens shortly before 4pm on Wednesday, and said no arrests have been made but enquiries into the incident are continuing.
