Two prison officers arrest in corrupt payments investigation

Two serving prison officers were arrested today by detectives investigating alleged corrupt payments to public officials.

Scotland Yard said a 52-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of conspiracy to commit misconduct in a public office and misconduct in a public office and is being interviewed at a south London police station.

A 26-year-old man is being questioned at a Kent police station on suspicion of conspiracy to cause misconduct in a public office and money laundering.

Scotland Yard said the two men were arrested at their home in Kent at around 6am.

They are the 68th and 69th arrests under Operation Elveden which is being supervised by the police watchdog and is running in conjunction with Operation Weeting, the Met's inquiry into phone hacking.
