Two men will appear in court today charged with intent to endanger life after Grimsby Islamic Cultural Centre was firebombed.

The attack, which occurred yesterday while a young family was inside, was the second on the Weelsby Road mosque in just three days.

Stuart Harness, 33, of Grimsby, and Gavin Humphries, 37, whose address has not been specified, were arrested in connection with the incident and will appear at Grimsby Magistrates' Court this morning.

The attacks come amid heightened tensions in the area following the murder of Drummer Lee Rigby in Woolwich last week.

On Thursday, eleven teenagers, aged 16 and 17, were arrested after a party spiralled out of control.

Chief Superintendent Tony Forbes, of Humberside Police, said: “It is important to remember that those people who have committed these offences are a very small minority and they do not reflect the vast majority of people who live in North East Lincolnshire.”

Humberside Police said it is investigating whether the incidents are racially motivated.
