Two men have been arrested in connection with a double shooting, Scotland Yard said today.
A hooded gunman shot one of his victims at point blank range in Islington, north London, on Wednesday evening in what detectives said was a totally unprovoked and "horrendous" attack which left the man fighting for life.
Half and hour later a woman was shot nearby, apparently at random.
Scotland Yard said today that a 23-year-old man was arrested in south west London in the early hours of this morning on suspicion of attempted murder.
Late last night, a 19-year-old man was arrested in north London on suspicion of assisting an offender.
They were being held at a central London police station.
The first attack took place at 6.45pm just outside Starbucks coffee house and the Fez Bar on busy Upper Street in Islington.
There was a scuffle between the victim and his attacker but no words were exchanged, police said.
The victim, who is in his 30s, was shot once with a handgun, apparently in the throat.
He was still in a critical but stable condition in hospital today.
His friend chased the gunman, who was described as male, white, in his 20s, wearing a grey hooded top, dark trousers and trainers, from Upper Street and down Essex Street but lost him soon after.
The second shooting took place just over half an hour after the first.
Police were called at 7.18pm to Finsbury Park Tube station to reports of several shots being fired by a gunman at two men.
But a woman in her 20s, who was standing near the the Wells Terrace entrance of the station, was hit in the back.
She suffered a non-life-threatening injury and was taken by ambulance to a north London hospital but later discharged.
