Two arrested over remains found in Mansfield garden

Two people have been arrested and questioned on suspicion of murder after human remains were found in a back garden in Mansfield.

The remains were found at Blenheim Close, a quiet cul-de-sac in the city's north-east, on 9 October.

Though they haven't been formally identified, they are believed to be of William and Patricia Wycherley, an elderly couple who lived at the house in the 1990s. Neighbours said they disappeared in 1998.

Mrs Wycherley would have been 64 years old in 1998, and Bill would have been 85. Police have said the couple "were known to be quite reclusive".

A 57-year-old man and a 55-year-old woman were in police custody and being questioned, a force spokeswoman said.

Detectives said the remains appeared to have been in the back garden for some time.
