A young man and woman have been arrested on suspicion of murder after the death of a toddler in Dorset.

The two-year-old - named as ‘Harry’ - was found seriously unwell by emergency services at a house in Broadmayne near Dorchester on May 27, and died at a local hospital shortly after.

The two suspects, both aged 21, have been taken into custody and are being questioned by Dorset Police.

The post mortem to determine cause of death took place on Wednesday, five days after the child died at Dorset County Hospital.

In a Facebook post shortly after, Harry’s father, Joe, described his son as “the only thing that was special to me in the whole world”.

His mother Lauren, meanwhile, posted photos of her son on the social networking site and say her son was “so funny”.

Meanwhile, ITV News reported that Harry was “previously known to Dorset County Council, but there was no current active involvement [with the family]” at the time of his death.

In a statement, Inspector Mike Darby of Dorchester Police, said: “I appreciate the incident has impacted on this close-knit community, but it is important we understand the full circumstances surrounding the death.

"An investigation has been launched and there may be some police presence in the village while detectives carry out their investigations.

"If anyone in the local community has concerns, they can speak to their local neighbourhood policing team who will be able to offer reassurances.”

The investigation is ongoing and the child has not yet been officially named by police.
