Tulse Hill shooting: 17-year-old fighting for life after being gunned down in south London
Third shooting on the streets of the capital since Friday
A 17-year-old boy was left fighting for his life after being shot in Tulse Hill – the third shooting on the streets of London in the past four days.
The teenager was found with gunshot wounds after police were called to reports of shots being fired on the Tulse Hill Estate around 9.40pm on Sunday night.
The victim was taken to hospital where he remains in critical condition on Monday afternoon.
It comes after 28-year-old man was shot in Leytonstone, east London, shortly after 11.30am on Monday morning. He was taken to a London hospital where his condition has been assessed as non–life threatening.
The latest incident follows a spree of gun and knife violence in the capital, with four people killed in suspected murders since Friday.
The latest homicide victim, a man in his 40s, was stabbed to death in Whalebone Lane, Stratford, in the early hours of Monday morning.
This followed three homicides in the space of 24 hours, including two teenagers who were killed late Friday afternoon.
Cheyon Evans, 18, was found stabbed on Deeside Road in Wandsworth, south-west London, shortly after 4.30pm, and died at the scene.
Mohamed Nadir Dafallah, 18, of Wandsworth, south-west London, and a 17-year-old, who cannot be named for legal reasons, appeared at Wimbledon Magistrates’ Court on Monday charged with his murder. They are next due to appear at the Old Bailey on Wednesday.
In the second killing, Eniola Aluko, 19, from Thamesmead, south-east London, was shot dead in Hartville Road, Plumstead, shortly before 5pm.
On Saturday a man in his 30s was stabbed to death in a field next to a nursery and a mosque in Alton Street, in Tower Hamlets, east London, just before 2pm.
As well as the violent deaths, another victim, 45, was left in a critical condition when he was stabbed in Enfield at about 3.30pm on Saturday.
The latest string of homicides has renewed concerns about violent crime, although so far this year there have been 57 violent deaths in the capital, compared with 78 by the same date last year.
The monthly homicide rate peaked at 18 in February and March in London in 2018, compared with a high of 15 in March this year.
Speaking on Monday, London mayor Sadiq Khan said: “We’ve had four days and four homicides in London, we’ve seen over the last five years an increase in violent crime across our country and it's not acceptable.
“That’s one of the reasons why City Hall, even though there’s been massive cuts from central government, have continued to invest in our police.”
Police are appealing for witnesses in the Tulse Hill shooting, as well as anyone who was in the area at the time of the event.
Detective Inspector Ed Facer said: “The incident occurred in the street near to the Jubilee Hall Community Centre on the estate. We believe that there may have been a large number of people in the area at the time as an event was taking place at the community centre around the time of the shooting.
“Were you there? Did you see anything? Of particular interest would be anyone with mobile phone or dash cam footage of the event or surrounding circumstances. We need to hear from you to build on our understanding of what unfolded.”
