The driver of tram which struck and killed a pensioner will be sentenced today.

Holidaymaker Maureen Foxwell was celebrating her 70th birthday when she was knocked down by the tram on Blackpool's Promenade in August last year.

Mrs Foxwell, from Caerphilly, south Wales, suffered a fractured skull and chest injuries and died on September 12.

Tram driver Paul Edensor, 36, of Alexander Road, Thornton Cleveleys, Lancs, pleaded guilty at Preston Crown Court last month to causing her death by careless driving.

He will return to the court today for sentencing.
