Two people have been arrested on suspicion of murdering a three-month old baby who died from serious injuries.

Doctors alerted police after the child was taken to Gloucestershire Royal Hospital on Saturday morning.

He was transferred to Bristol Children’s Hospital but died yesterday.

Floral tributes and toys have been left near the baby's home.

A neighbour who has lived in the area for 18 years told Gloucestershire Live that the incident had made people 'very emotional'.

They said: "It's sickening. It makes me feel sick that something like this has happened so close by."

A couple have reportedly lived in the house for around 18 months.

A 20-year-old woman and a man, 26, from central Gloucester, remain in custody.

They were held on suspicion of attempted murder at first and re-arrested for murder after the baby died.

A Gloucestershire police spokesman said: "Police were called to Gloucestershire Royal Hospital at 11am on Saturday after concerns were raised for a baby's welfare.

"A baby boy, aged three-months-old, was brought to the hospital with serious injuries.

"The baby sadly died at Bristol Children's Hospital.

"The man and woman arrested for attempted murder have now been arrested on suspicion of murder in connection with the case.

"They are still in custody.

"We wish to reassure the local community that this is thought to be an isolated and contained incident, with no wider risk to the public."
