Three men have appeared in court after a record haul of heroin worth nearly £2 million was seized in a single drugs bust in the Scottish capital.

Nearly 18kg of the drug was discovered in a raid on a house in Edinburgh yesterday - the largest amount yet recovered by Lothian and Borders Police.

Kris Brown, 28, appeared at Edinburgh Sheriff Court alongside Lee Knott and William Hunter, both 21, charged in connection with drugs offences. All three men live in Edinburgh.

The men made no plea and no declaration, and were released on bail pending further court action.

The seizure was made under Operation Advance, an ongoing operation targeting serious organised crime in the capital.

The heroin was found in the Sighthill area, a largely deprived estate on the outskirts of the city which is currently undergoing a £60 million regeneration.
