Teenager killed by gunshot to head

Monday 15 March 2010 12:47 EDT

A 14-year-old boy found dead at his home was killed by a single gunshot wound to his head, it was revealed today.

Police named the boy as Liam Nelson as an inquest into his death was opened and adjourned.

An investigation was launched after his body was discovered at the house in Brook Road, Merstham, Surrey on Thursday evening, but no-one else is being sought in connection with the incident.

A Surrey Police spokeswoman said: "The firearm involved was a licensed weapon and police are satisfied there is no risk to the wider public."

Friends and relatives of the teenager have left tributes to him on social networking site Facebook, some suggesting Liam had been bullied and also suffered greatly after the death of his grandfather.

Laura Nye wrote: "My beautiful baby brother, i miss u so much and you have left a void that will never be filled.

"I hope you are at peace now flying in the sky like pilot you always wanted to be."
