Town centre closed off after suspected triple stabbing in Bury
Streets near Bury market closed off to public as police investigate, with no arrests yet made
Police are investigating a suspected triple stabbing which took place in broad daylight in Bury town centre.
Three people were hospitalised and an air ambulance mobilised after the violent incident near Bury market, thought to have happened at around midday on Monday.
Several streets surrounding the area were closed off while police investigated. No one is thought to have sustained life-threatening injuries, and no arrests had yet been announced some seven hours later.
A clip shared to social media appeared to show an air ambulance touched down near the market, while responding to the incident.
The North West Ambulance Service told the Bury Times it had responded to a police incident following a call just after midday, adding: “Three patients have been taken to hospital.”
Several streets were cordoned off, including an alleyway behind the market which connects to the Princess Parade high street, where one shopkeeper told the local outlet: “I saw four constables in the alley and thought why are they outside, what’s going on here?
“Then I could hear a helicopter overhead and I thought something isn’t right.”
In a statement, the force said: “Greater Manchester Police are still responding to an incident on Murray Road, Bury. Officers remain at the scene to conduct further enquiries into what is believed to be a stabbing.
“The extent of the injuries sustained by three victims are thankfully not thought to be life-threatening. No arrests have been made at this time.
“Anyone with information that may help is asked to call 101 quoting incident 1338 of 11/03/2024.”
