Southampton rape investigation: Officers release more CCTV images of the man they want to identify

Police investigating the rape of a teenager in a Southampton park have released further CCTV footage of a man they want to find.

An 18-year-old woman was raped in the city’s Riverside Park at 11.30pm on 2 December.

Hampshire Constabulary previously released footage of a man walking behind her shortly before the assault.

Now detectives have tracked the same person back to a Sainsbury's Local in nearby Burgess Road at 11.15pm. They said the video showed him initially following another woman.

Det Insp Roger Wood said: "He sees her on Burgess Road and appears to follow her to Wessex Lane, where he loses her and then begins to double back on himself and follow the 18-year-old woman that was moments later raped in Riverside Park.

“We believe someone will know this man from this image. Do you recognise him, his clothing, his hair or anything about him?

“We are urging anyone with any information at all as to who this might be to get in contact with us immediately.”

The man is described as white, tall, of medium build and aged in his mid 20s to 30s. He spoke with a southern English accent. He is seen wearing a dark green hooded top and dark trainers.

Police also revealed two more women have reported being followed in the area in November and December. The same man is thought to have been involved on all three occasions.
