A teenager today become the 17th person to be convicted over the mob killing of a schoolboy inside a central London station after a clash between pupils from rival schools.

Sofyen Belamouadden was stabbed nine times after he was chased into Victoria station and cornered by members of a 20-strong mob after the two rival groups confronted each other in March 2010.

The attack had been planned the night before on Facebook and Blackberry messaging systems.

Junior Bayode, 19, was found guilty of manslaughter at the Old Bailey today but the jury could not agree a verdict on murder. The Crown Prosecution Service will announce on Friday if they plan to pursue a retrial.

Bayode’s case was the fifth trial that has spanned nearly two years. Three men have been given life sentences for murdering Sofyen and will serve a minimum of 18 years in prison.

Four others have been convicted of manslaughter, including the only woman charged, Victoria Osoteku, who bought a box set of Argos knives to hand to fellow college students in west London. She was also seen on CCTV kicking Sofyen in the head as he lay dying on the ground after the 12-second attack.
