Six arrested in Dover over Syria-related terrorism offences
The suspects were taken to the West Midlands for questioning
Six people were arrested on Friday morning in the departure zone of the port of Dover on suspicion of Syria-related terrorism offences.
The suspects, five men and a woman, were taken to the West Midlands for questioning and several properties in Birmingham were searched in connection with the arrests.
West Midlands Police said the six were not members of the same family, nor were there any children in the party. At least four of them live in Birmingham.
The police added in one of a series of tweets detailing the arrests: “The suspects, who are not a family group and were not accompanied by children, did not pose any immediate risk to public safety.”
Four of the men arrested are from Birmingham and in their 20s, police said. A fifth man, aged 26, and a 23-year-old woman were of no fixed address.
In one of the tweets the Force stated: “Searches are taking place at a number of addresses in Birmingham. The arrests are part of an on-going investigation.”
