Sidcup stabbing: Attacker on the run after man knifed in south London park
Victim airlifted to hospital following incident at recreation ground
Police are hunting a knifeman who is still on the run following a stabbing at a park in south-east London.
A man in his 20s had to be airlifted to hospital following the attack at King George’s Recreation Ground in Sidcup on Tuesday evening.
A Metropolitan Police spokesman said officers were called to the scene just before 7.15pm, along with crews from London Ambulance Service and London Air Ambulance.
The victim was later taken to an east London hospital, where his condition was not thought to be life-threatening.
His attacker remains at large and police have yet to make an arrest in connection with the incident.
More than 80 people have been killed in violent circumstances across London since the start of 2018, including more than 50 deaths caused by stabbings.
Police said at the end of July violent crime was beginning to “stabilise” in the capital after a spate of deaths in the first seven months of the year.
Met commissioner Cressida Dick said street murders in the city were “nearly always gang-related” and in part blamed middle-class cocaine use for fuelling a demand for the drug and increasing violence.
Ms Dick also cited provocation on social media and young people growing desensitised to violence through videos for a rise in the number of incidents.
