Shocking footage shows man pushing trolley onto tracks in front of train
British Transport Police say they are keen to speak to the man involved in the incident, which could have caused the train to derail
The British Transport Police has released shocking footage of a man casually pushing a large metal baggage trolley onto the tracks moments before a train came into Euston station.
Though no significant damage was caused, officers took to Twitter to explain how serious the incident could have been.
Police posted a message from @btp_uk which said: “The #Euston incident could've derailed the train and injured passengers.”
And Inspector James Tyrrell, of British Transport Police, said: “The man was walking along platform one at Euston station with a suitcase at about 9pm on Tuesday August 6.
”As shown in the footage, he approached a suitcase trolley, which was on the platform, and suddenly pushed it onto the tracks, before walking off from the scene. A short time later, a train arriving into the station struck the trolley, luckily causing no significant damage.“
Mr Tyrrell added: ”We are unsure as to why the man deliberately pushed the trolley onto the tracks before walking away, which is why we are keen to trace him and speak to him about his dangerous actions.
“If the train had been travelling at speed, it could have caused serious damages to the tracks, train and anyone who may have been close by.
”The image of the man is clear - if you recognise him, I'd urge you to come forward.“
