Shocking footage shows Dudley carer filmed stealing from 85-year-old lady she was supposed to be looking after
Cameras were installed in the home after family members complained that money had been going missing
This is the moment a Dudley carer was recorded stealing money belonging to an elderly pensioner she was supposed to be looking after.
In the video taken on 6 January this year, 19-year-old care worker Sheryvone Brooks is captured pocketing £30 from a purse belonging to 85-year-old Evelyn Nicholson as she visits her property in Stourbridge, Dudley.
The camera was first set up at Mrs Nicholson’s property by bosses at Gateway Health and Social Care Dudley after her family had complained that money had been going missing from the home.
Ms Brooks was subsequently spotted taking the money after bosses reviewed the tape.
At a hearing at Dudley Magistrates Court, prosecutor Miss Lynda Gudgeon, said the video showed the defendant, “sitting down at the kitchen drawer removing the purse and taking out the money before putting it in the pocket of her tracksuit.”
She added that Ms Brooks had “admitted what she had done" and that she stole the money because "needed the money for Christmas presents.”
Ms Brooks defence, Mr Timothy Talbot-Webb, said that his client was of previous good character and that she understood her actions were stupid.
Magistrates said that while the actions were minor, it had been a breach of trust and the case should be forwarded to Wolverhampton Crown Court.
