Seven people were injured yesterday by air gun pellets after a busker began playing an amplified guitar shortly after midnight.
Seven people were injured yesterday by air gun pellets after a busker began playing an amplified guitar shortly after midnight.
People disturbed by the noise complained to police about the busker, who was playing outside Woolworths in the Cornish resort of Newquay.
But before officers arrived, witnesses said that one person fired an air gun from an upstairs window, hitting people in the group surrounding the busker. The injured included a girl aged 15 from Plymouth who needed surgery to remove a pellet from her foot.
Four people were taken to the Royal Cornwall Hospital in Truro. Three others in the audience were also believed to have been slightly hurt. The busker was unharmed.
Police raided a flat and arrested a man aged 27 from Newquay. They found an air rifle and ammunition which were taken away for ballistic tests. The 27-year-old was released on bail. He will appear in court on 30 October, a spokesman for Devon and Cornwall police said.
No action was taken against the busker. "I think he will think twice about setting up at that time again," a police spokesman said.
